MASS COMMUNICATION IN SCEINCE & TECHNOLOGY MCST in Lucknow University was established in 1995 with the support of Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Earlier the students who had completed their post graduation in science subjects were admitted to this course but after 1997 , younger students were taken. It was a one and a half year course but now its a two years Msc degree course. MCST is a programme of its own kind. Its basic is to create awareness among the masses about the scientific developments and its utilization in our daily life. Popularisation of science is very important and thus this course has been structured in a way which will help peolple to improve the standards of living. There are thirty seats for science graduates, engineers and doctors. Apart from this, there are five seats reserved for those who are referred by the UP Govt. or any research institutions. Students are send to attend seminars at various research institutes in the city. Theyalso go to All Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan for field work. We organise seminars in our own department where eminent speakers come and interact with students. Last year MCST got exposure in the Indian Science COngress as the whole event was covered by them The students have been successfully placed in the some of the leading electronic and print media companies. Few of them have qualified the IAS exams, some are working in the research institites as public relations officers. One of the student has gone to IIM Ahemadabad for research. Mass communication is an emerging field these days. The admission are done through written test which comprises questions in topics like science, general awareness, english language and communication skills.
