Education plays an important role for people of Taiwan, Republic of China (ROC). Taiwan has 42 universities, 45 independent four year collges and 52 junior colleges.

Engineering, medicine, information technology, business administration, international trade and special advanced courses for Chinese Studies and Mandarin Programmes are among the popular course in Taiwan.

The International MBA programme of the College of Commerce at National Chengchi University is very popular, just like Insian Institute of Management in India. The National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University and Taiwan Study Abroad Centre in Taichung offeres special courses in Mandarin for foreign students.

The Ministry of Education in Taiwan offers general scholarships and special scholarship to froeign students. A general scholorship carries a monthly stipend of NT $ 15,000 or NT $ 20,000 (US $1=NT $ 34.50) for six months to twelve months. Besides, the ministry of education provides a monthly stipend of NT $ 25,000 to students whose governments or specified organisations have signed particular cultural and educational cooperation with ROC.

In the year 2000, the number of foreign students pursuing higher education in Taiwan totalled 7,524 from 84 nations, out of which 76 were from India. The students from Taiwan are accepted globally. In recent times, the world's fourth largest computer hardware production, Taiwan's Hsinchu Sceince-based industry park is attracting many information technology experts from India.
