JAPAN Japan has been a player in foreign education sector for some time. Japanese universities and other educational institutions provide high-quality education and excellent research environment, especially in the field of science and engineering. About one lakh foreign students from all over the world are now studying in Japan. About 55 universities provide master's degree courses where all the lectures are conducted in English. The cost of living in Japan is on the higher side. It generally cost about 1.4 lakh Yen or approx. Rs 54,000 except for the tution fee per month. However, the Japanese government and some of the local governments and universities in Japan do offer Scholarships for the students. International students prefer courses in social science, humanities, engineering, teacher training, medicine and dentistry, arts, agricultute, home economics and sceince. It takes atleast four year to finish the bachelor's degree course, two years for master's degree course and three years to finish the doctoral degree course.
